Overview

The Game Bar is built into Windows with the original intent to allow users to take screenshots or recordings of their video games, however it can be used to record clips from any media on the computer, such as presentations or meetings.


To launch the Game Bar, press the Windows key and the G key at the same time. This will allow you to edit recording settings such as which system audio to record. You can also start/stop a recording from this menu, though isn't required to be open to make a recording if using the keyboard shortcut below.


Enabling

  1. Open the Settings menu
  2. In the bar at the top, search for "game bar"
  3. Select the option "Enable Xbox Game Bar"
  4. Toggle the button at the top to enable the Game Bar


Recording

  1. Go to the game or app you want to record.
  2. Press the Windows logo key + Alt + R to start recording a clip.
  3. To toggle the microphone on and off during the recording, press the Windows logo key + Alt + M.
  4. Play the game or use the app until you have recorded what you wanted, then press the Windows logo key + AltR to stop recording.

The recording will be saved under the Videos folder, in the Captures subfolder
