Introduction
Multifactor authentication allows you to secure your Office 365 account with more than just a password. It allows you to perform two-factor authentication using 'something you have' using:
- An SMS message
- A phone call
- A push notification to the Microsoft Authentication app on your smartphone
Manage your settings for two-step verification
- Sign in to https://www.office.com
- Select your account name in the top right, then select My account.
- Select Security & privacy
- Select Additional security verification
- The Additional security verification page will load and show your existing multifactor authentication methods
To change your primary phone number:
- On the Additional security verification page, select the text box with your current phone number and change it to reflect your updated phone number.
- Select Save to apply your changes.
To add a secondary phone number:
- On the Additional security verification page, check the box next to Alternate authentication phone.
- Enter your alternative phone number in the text box.
- Select Save to apply your changes.
To change app settings:
- On the Additional security verification page, check the box next to Authenticator app then select Configure
- This will bring up a QR code
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your smartphone. On the Accounts screen, select +, and then specify the type of account you would like to add.
- When prompted, use the camera to scan the QR code and add the account to your device.
- Select Done to close the QR code screen on your computer.
